Our Approach to Social Connection

At Ageing with Grace, we believe that no one should face the challenges of ageing alone. We are dedicated to addressing the pressing issue of social isolation and loneliness among older people. Our comprehensive approach includes a variety of programs and initiatives designed to foster connections, promote mental wellbeing and enhance the quality of life for our older community members.

Volunteers are the backbone of our efforts to combat social isolation and loneliness. Their dedication and compassion are essential to our mission.

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme

Funded by the Australian Government

As of July 2023, Ageing with Grace is delighted to announce we have been funded by the Australian Government to provide the ACVVS. This scheme aims to enhance social connections and reduce loneliness and social isolation among older people in the community. By supporting this scheme, we are actively promoting the well-being and happiness of older people by facilitating regular face to face visits from volunteers who engage in friendly conversations, companionship, and recreational activities. We believe that fostering these meaningful connections will contribute to a sense of belonging and greatly improve the quality of life for older people in the community.

Visits are available to anyone who:

  • receives a government-subsidised residential aged care or home care package, including care recipients approved and waitlisted for residential or a home care package.
  • is socially isolated.

The scheme has been running for over 30 years. It was formerly known as the Community Visitors Scheme (CVS).

Unlocking the Benefits of Technology for Older People

In today's society, technology plays a crucial role, offering a multitude of opportunities for connection, independence, and recreation. However, for many older people, it can seem daunting and overwhelming, creating barriers to accessing these benefits. At Ageing with Grace, we believe in empowering older people to embrace technology with confidence, and we provide dedicated volunteer support to guide them on this digital journey.

Peer Support Groups - Creating Meaningful Connections

Face-to-face and virtual peer support groups provide invaluable benefits for older people, fostering a sense of community, reducing feelings of isolation, and enhancing mental wellbeing. In-person support groups offer direct, personal interaction that helps build strong, empathetic connections among participants, creating a trusted network where older people can share experiences, offer advice, and provide emotional support. These gatherings often become a vital social outlet, combating loneliness and improving overall quality of life. On the other hand, virtual peer support groups expand accessibility, allowing those with mobility issues or geographical limitations to participate from the comfort of their homes. This digital inclusion ensures that all older people, regardless of their physical circumstances, can enjoy the benefits of peer support. Both formats complement each other, offering flexible, inclusive, and effective means of fostering community and support among older people.
