Our Volunteers: The Heart and Soul of Ageing with Grace

At Ageing with Grace, we owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our dedicated and passionate volunteers who are the backbone of our organization. These selfless individuals generously contribute their time, skills, and compassion to make a positive difference in the lives of older people.

Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and bring a wealth of experiences and talents to the table. They are retirees, professionals, students, and community members who share a common goal: to support older adults in their quest for social connection, digital empowerment, and independence.

Social Connection Champions:

Our volunteers provide social connection and friendship and create opportunities for older people to connect, socialize, and build meaningful relationships. They are compassionate listeners, conversation starters, and companions, providing the human connection that is essential for emotional well-being.

Tech Mentors:

With their knowledge and expertise, our tech-savvy volunteers offer patient guidance and support to older adults who are new to the digital world. They conduct IT training sessions, assist with setting up devices, troubleshoot technical issues, and empower seniors to navigate the digital landscape confidently.

Daily Living Support Heroes:

Our volunteers provide practical assistance to older adults in their activities of daily living. They accompany them on shopping trips, assist with grocery shopping, and offer transportation services to medical appointments or personal errands.

Their presence and support allow older adults to maintain their independence and stay engaged in the community.

Compassion and Empathy:

Our volunteers possess a deep understanding of the challenges faced by older adults. Meet Our CEO, Esis Tawfik: A Leader with a Passion for Empowering Older Adults.

With over 30 years of experience in the volunteer, community, and aged care sector, Esis Tawfik is the driving force behind Ageing with Grace. Esis brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and a deep commitment to improving the lives of older people.

Esis’ journey in the sector began with a simple desire to make a positive impact in the community across many sectors. Over the years, Esis has worked tirelessly to advocate for the needs of older people and create innovative programs that address their unique challenges.

Drawing from a diverse background in volunteering, community development, and aged care, Esis has a deep understanding of the importance of social connection, digital literacy, and support for daily activities.

Esis’ unwavering dedication and genuine compassion for older people are evident in every aspect of Ageing with Grace’s work. With a keen eye for innovation and a commitment to excellence, Esis continues to drive our organization forward, pioneering new initiatives and partnerships that enrich the lives of older people across the community.

Ainsley Ginger - Chairperson of the Board

Ainsley Ginger, the Chairperson of Ageing with Grace, brings to the organization an extensive background in the telecommunications, construction, and business consulting industries. Having held senior positions, including General Manager, Ainsley has demonstrated his leadership in driving strategic development throughout his career. From overseeing start-up products to leading projects in both government and private sectors, he has proven his ability to navigate complex challenges and deliver successful outcomes.

Throughout his professional journey, Ainsley has always harboured a passion for building foundations and giving back to the community. This intrinsic drive to support the vulnerable and those in need of assistance in their everyday lives has guided his career choices and pursuits. Recognising the importance of providing support and care for old people, Ainsley was drawn to Ageing with Grace’s mission.

As the Chairperson, Ainsley is dedicated to making a tangible difference for older people. His expertise in strategic development, gained from his extensive experience in various industries, equips him with the necessary skills to guide and lead the organisation. Ainsley’s visionary mindset, coupled with his ability to execute plans effectively, ensures that Ageing with Grace remains focused on addressing the needs of older people and making a meaningful impact.

Furthermore, Ainsley’s passion for community engagement and his commitment to improving the lives of others align perfectly with Ageing with Grace’s goals. His desire to create a positive change and enhance the well-being of older people serves as a driving force behind his role as the Chairperson. With his leadership, Ageing with Grace can continue to develop innovative programs and initiatives that reduce loneliness, improve independence, and increase the overall sense of value for older people.

 

Cassie Hassall - Board Director

With a passion for making a positive impact in the community, Cassie was drawn to the opportunity to become a board member for Ageing with Grace, a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of older people. Firmly believing in the importance of reducing loneliness, promoting independence, and enhancing the sense of value among older individuals, Cassie sought to contribute her skills and experiences to this cause.

Having spent significant time working with Vision Australia, Cassie witnessed first-hand the transformative power of quality services for individuals with specific needs, and was inspired to extend her expertise to improve the well-being of older people. Ageing with Grace perfectly aligns with Cassie’s values and offers a platform to make a meaningful difference in the lives of older individuals.

Bringing a background in volunteer program management, leadership, project management, and communication, Cassie possesses a valuable skill set that can benefit the organization. She has a track record of successfully driving positive change within organizations and is adept at stakeholder engagement. These capabilities can be effectively utilized to shape and implement strategies that reduce loneliness, enhance independence, and foster a greater sense of value among the older population.

Furthermore, Cassie’s commitment to inclusivity and advocacy for equal opportunities closely aligns with Ageing with Grace’s mission. Since joining the board, Cassie is an active contributor to the organization’s strategic decision-making, program development, and resource allocation. Together, with the CEO and other Board members, Cassie strives to create a society where older individuals are cherished, empowered, and provided with the necessary support to lead fulfilling lives.

 

Farid Silwanis - Board Director

Farid, an experienced professional Egyptian-born engineer, has dedicated over 40 years of his career to the telecommunications and IT industry. Throughout his extensive international experience and travels, he has worked as a consultant for multinational companies across multiple continents, including North America, Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East, and Australia. Farid’s expertise lies in telecommunications, systems design, and business start-ups, with a remarkable track record of success, including the establishment of his own IT and communications company in 1991. One notable achievement in his career was the founding of AVANSER, a Business to Business telecommunications services company that served clients, carriers, and multinationals in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Upon retiring from corporate life, Farid embarked on a new path driven by his newfound passion for photography. By embracing this art form, he is able to unleash his creativity and capture the world’s beauty through his lens. Combining his technical skills with an artistic eye, Farid has pursued additional education in photography and earned a diploma in Art Therapy. Currently, he manages a boutique photography studio, fwStudioSydney, located in the heart of Sydney CBD.

With more time available in his retirement, Farid has chosen to focus on volunteer work, particularly in assisting older persons. Recognizing that aging can bring about emotional, intellectual, and physical challenges, he strongly believes in the significance of providing resources and support to help older individuals navigate these changes. Motivated by his passion for giving back to the community, Farid has actively engaged in volunteer activities, including his involvement with the Community Visitors Scheme. This experience has deepened his understanding of the needs and efforts being made to enhance the quality of life for older people, further fueling his desire to make a positive impact in this area.

Farid embraces the opportunity to serve as a board member for Ageing with Grace, recognizing it as a valuable platform to exert a positive influence. He appreciates the chance to utilize his extensive experience, knowledge, and skills to make a meaningful impact on the lives of older individuals. With great enthusiasm, Farid looks forward to collaborating with the esteemed board members and actively contributing to Ageing with Grace’s mission of promoting aging with grace and dignity. Together, they aspire to foster a brighter future for the elderly community through their collective efforts.
