Our Services

Our Approach to Social Connection

Loneliness poses a significant challenge, particularly for older people facing mobility limitations, transitioning to aged care homes, distance from family, and the loss of peers. Ageing with Grace recognizes the crucial role that friendship plays in overall well-being. As a result, we are committed to supporting social connections through various initiatives.

Creating a vibrant community within our aged care homes is one of our key initiatives. We strive to foster an inclusive environment where older people can interact, form friendships, and engage in meaningful social activities. By organizing regular social events, group outings, and recreational programs, we aim to combat the sense of isolation and create opportunities for social interaction. Additionally, we prioritize facilitating family visits and encouraging ongoing communication, recognizing the importance of maintaining connections with loved ones. Through these efforts, Ageing with Grace aims to address loneliness among older people and promote their overall well-being.

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme

Funded by the Australian Government

As of July 2023, Ageing with Grace is delighted to announce we have been funded by the Australian Government to provide the ACVVS. This scheme aims to enhance social connections and reduce loneliness and social isolation among older people in the community. By supporting this scheme, we are actively promoting the well-being and happiness of older people by facilitating regular face to face visits from volunteers who engage in friendly conversations, companionship, and recreational activities. We believe that fostering these meaningful connections will contribute to a sense of belonging and greatly improve the quality of life for older people in the community.

Visits are available to anyone who:

  • receives a government-subsidised residential aged care or home care package, including care recipients approved and waitlisted for residential or a home care package.
  • is socially isolated.

The scheme has been running for over 30 years. It was previously known as the Community Visitors Scheme (CVS)

Digital Visiting Program:

Embracing technology, we offer a digital visiting program to bridge geographical barriers and enable virtual connections. Through video calls and online platforms, older people can engage with volunteers, friends, and family members, fostering a sense of closeness and reducing feelings of isolation.

Virtual Peer Groups:
Our virtual peer groups provide a supportive and engaging space for older people to connect with others who share similar interests, hobbies, or experiences. These online communities offer a platform for shared conversations, activities, and the opportunity to build new friendships, regardless of physical location.

Social Groups:
We organize social groups where older individuals can come together in person or virtually to participate in various activities, outings, and events. These gatherings provide opportunities to meet new people, share experiences, and enjoy companionship in a warm and inclusive setting.

Improving Well-being through Connection

Research consistently demonstrates that friendship and social connection have a positive impact on both physical and mental health. By participating in our social connection initiatives, older people can experience enhanced well-being, reduced feelings of loneliness, improved cognitive function, and a greater sense of belonging.

At Ageing with Grace, we are committed to promoting connection and friendship for older people. Through our face-to-face and digital programs, virtual peer groups, and social gatherings, we strive to create a supportive community where individuals can foster meaningful relationships, share experiences, and enjoy a fulfilling social life.

Together, let’s combat loneliness, strengthen social connections, and enrich the lives of older people with the power of friendship.

Unlocking the Benefits of Technology for Older People

Unlocking the Benefits of Technology for Older People In today's society, technology plays a crucial role, offering a multitude of opportunities for connection, independence, and recreation. However, for many older people, it can seem daunting and overwhelming, creating barriers to accessing these benefits. At Ageing with Grace, we believe in empowering older individuals to embrace technology with confidence, and we provide dedicated volunteer support to guide them on this digital journey.

Creating Meaningful Connections

Beyond the practical assistance, our personal shopping service aims to foster meaningful connections and companionship. Our volunteers are passionate about creating a warm and friendly environment, where conversations flow naturally, and shared experiences make shopping a joyful occasion. We believe that shopping is not just about acquiring items; it's an opportunity to connect, socialize, and enjoy the company of a caring companion.

Enabling Accessible Transportation for Older People

At Ageing with Grace, we understand that independent transportation can become challenging for older individuals. While family and friends are often the first choice for assistance, we recognize that sometimes alternative support is needed. That's why we offer transportation services to ensure older people can attend medical appointments with ease and peace of mind. Companionship on Public Transport or Private Transportation Our compassionate team provides personalized support to older individuals who require assistance with transportation. If using public transport is the preferred option, our volunteers can accompany them, providing companionship and guidance throughout the journey.
